Brioche is a French pastry that is akin to a enriched bread. The extra eggs and butter content give it a rich and tender crumb, with a golden and flaky crust. Brioche is commonly eaten as a snack or at breakfast, however with the addition of fruit or chocolate chips, for example, it is often served as a dessert with various fillings and toppings. It is also served to accompany savory items – such as fillet of beef en croute, with individual brioches.
Croissants are those delicately, flaky crescent shaped bakery items. Often referred to as Viennoiserie (layered yeast-leavened dough), the dough is layered with butter, rolled and folded several times, and then rolled into a sheet, in a technique called laminating. This results in a flaky texture similar to a puff pastry. Croissants are served plain or with chocolate, Nutella, or other fillings and often seen with roasted almonds atop.
