Pandor Bakery Brings in La Buche de Noel for the Holidays
Winter has finally come and the holiday season is in full swing. For many, this means a myriad of traditions, including hot cocoa by the hearth, hanging stockings over the fireplace, or perhaps a warm cup of egg nog. However, one holiday tradition has stood the test of time for centuries: La Buche de Noel. This long-standing cultural dessert, also known as the Yule Log cake, has a important history for those who keep the tradition. It all started back before the Medieval Era, during Europe's Iron Age...
Legend has it that on the Winter solstice, the Celtic Brits and the Gaelic Europeans would gather for a grand feast, ushering in the end of Winter. In an act of symbolism, many would burn a log adorned with aromatic holly, pine cones, etc. However, as time rolled on and the size of the family hearth began to shrink, the burning of large logs became more and more difficult. As a result, these smaller hearths became the perfect place for baking cakes. Thus was born the Buche de Noel.
Each and every year, our French bakers at Pandor Bakery honor this important custom by baking the most delicious and traditional Buche de Noel.
